March News Letter

Port Byron

Snow Panthers

Monthly News Letter Vol. 6, March 2010

As the Snowmobile season comes to a close, most of us can look back on a decent riding season. The
snow conditions have not really ever been perfect this year, but we ride every chance we can. Considering the
poor conditions, our grooming program never really had the chance to take full effect, but all of our groomers
have been out and Fred Sponable and Brian Nowak have groomed for dozens of hours to keep the trails as
nice a possible. Many other members have also groomed in the northern section of our trail system too.  This
effort is the result of club members working together. The guys that attended the groomer class that I offered
and then attended the practical section with Dave Hickey are now putting what they learned into action. I am
very pleased to see this happen. Thanks to all that have groomed this year.

Also as the season wraps up we have three more events coming up. This Saturday March 6th we will be
holding the 3rd Curley Maple Classic Snowmobile Drag Race.  This year we are not promoting the event as
much as in the past. There will be no cost to race at all and we will not be awarding trophies either. This event is
for fun, and grudge matches. Like it was last year we plan to begin around 10AM, with grudge racing and
challenges. You are welcome to bet between racers, and line them up, as you want to. We will provide a nice
660 foot race track, and a Christmas tree starting light. We will also be able to GPS your top speeds. We will not
provide Alcohol, but this is a BYOB event. After the race the party will continue at Pirates Landing Bar. The
track is located at the covered bridge, just past the Seneca River Bridge on Rt. 38. You can ride your sled in or
trailer there. If driving a truck, park on Hard Point Rd, it is a left off Rt. 38 North. The race is st Eric Cuypilo’s
barn, for information call 466-6195 (Ian) or 246-7766 (Eric).

Also in March we will be having the Snow Panthers Meat Raffle. It will be held on Saturday March 20th
at 7PM at the Port Byron American Legion.  This is one of my favorite events each year and attendance is
always great. At this event we hold a drawing about every ten minutes all night for prizes including meat
packages from Ed and Jeans and 50/50 tickets. We will also have hats and Snow Panthers apparel for sale. It is
fun for everyone and, a great way to conclude the riding season. We also have the landowner chicken BBQ that
is on April 18th and details will follow in next month’s newsletter.
